Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp and Coating

  • 1 lb medium or large peeled and deveined shrimp
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs or panko (use gluten-free if needed)
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Bang Bang Sauce

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise (vegan mayo for dairy-free)
  • 23 tablespoons Sriracha (adjust to spice preference)
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lime juice

Slaw and Toppings

  • 1 cup thinly sliced green cabbage
  • 1 cup thinly sliced purple cabbage
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • Lime wedges, for serving
  • Soft corn or flour tortillas (use corn tortillas for gluten-free)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bang Bang Sauce: Whisk together mayonnaise, Sriracha, honey, and freshly squeezed lime juice in a small bowl until smooth and creamy. Adjust Sriracha quantity to desired spice level.
  2. Coat the Shrimp: Pat shrimp dry. Toss shrimp in flour seasoned lightly with salt and pepper. Dip shrimp into beaten egg, then coat thoroughly with breadcrumbs or panko for crispiness.
  3. Cook the Shrimp: Fry shrimp in hot oil until golden and crispy, or place shrimp on a lined baking sheet and bake at 425°F (220°C) for 10–12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until cooked through and crispy.
  4. Prepare the Slaw: Combine thinly sliced green and purple cabbage with chopped cilantro and a squeeze of lime juice in a bowl to create a fresh, crunchy slaw.
  5. Assemble the Tacos: Warm tortillas. Spread a generous layer of bang bang sauce on each tortilla, add crispy shrimp, then top with cabbage slaw and fresh cilantro. Serve immediately with lime wedges on the side.

Notes

  • Use fresh or properly thawed shrimp for optimal texture and flavor.
  • Fry shrimp in batches to avoid overcrowding and ensure even cooking.
  • Make bang bang sauce ahead to let flavors meld and deepen.
  • Warm tortillas in a dry skillet or wrapped in foil to prevent tearing.
  • Adjust the spice level by varying the amount of Sriracha in the sauce.
