Buffalo Chicken Fries

Buffalo Chicken Fries are crispy, golden chicken strips coated in a tangy, spicy Buffalo sauce. They offer a crunchy texture with bold, zesty flavor and are easy to make with simple ingredients. Perfect as a snack, appetizer, or party food, these fries balance heat and zest while being customizable for spice level and dietary preferences.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken and Coating

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast, sliced into fry-shaped strips
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free rice flour for gluten-free version)
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs or panko (use gluten-free panko if needed)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

Sauce and Cooking

  • ½ to ¾ cup Buffalo sauce (adjust to taste)
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola) or cooking spray/oil for baking

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Trim the chicken breast and slice into even, long strips resembling fries. Pat dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture for better coating adherence.
  2. Set Up Your Breading Stations: In one bowl, mix flour with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. In a second bowl, beat the eggs until smooth. In a third bowl, place the breadcrumbs or panko.
  3. Bread the Chicken Fries: Dip each chicken strip first into the seasoned flour, then into the egg wash, and finally coat thoroughly with breadcrumbs. Press gently to ensure the breading sticks well, creating a triple-layer crust for extra crunch.
  4. Cook to Crispy Perfection: Either deep-fry the breaded chicken strips in hot oil at 350°F (175°C) until golden brown and crispy (about 4-5 minutes), or bake on a greased sheet at 425°F (220°C) for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through. Both methods result in crispy, tender fries.
  5. Toss with Buffalo Sauce: Immediately after cooking, toss the hot fries in warm Buffalo sauce until evenly coated. The heat helps the sauce cling and infuses each piece with bold, spicy flavor.

Notes

  • Pat chicken dry before breading to ensure coating sticks and fries crisp up perfectly.
  • Use panko breadcrumbs for an extra crunchy texture.
  • Maintain frying oil temperature at around 350°F (175°C) to avoid greasy or burnt fries.
  • Warm Buffalo sauce slightly before tossing for better coating and enhanced flavor infusion.
  • Serve Buffalo Chicken Fries immediately while hot and crispy for the best experience.
