Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup cooked, peeled crawfish tails
  • 1 French bread loaf (soft yet sturdy)
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning (adjust to taste)
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise or remoulade sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Ingredients: Chop the green onions and shred the cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses. If the crawfish tails are frozen, thaw them completely and drain any excess liquid to prevent soggy bread.
  2. Mix the Filling: In a bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, mayonnaise or remoulade, shredded cheddar, shredded Monterey Jack, chopped green onions, and Cajun seasoning. Gently fold in the crawfish tails to keep them intact and distribute evenly.
  3. Prepare the Bread: Slice the French bread loaf lengthwise, creating a boat-like shape without cutting all the way through. Hollow out some of the soft inner bread to make room for the filling while maintaining enough structure.
  4. Fill and Assemble: Spread the crawfish and cheese mixture generously inside the hollowed bread halves. Place the filled bread on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  5. Bake to Perfection: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the filled bread for 15 to 20 minutes until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and the bread edges are toasted to a golden brown.
  6. Serve Warm: Remove from the oven and let the bread rest for a few minutes. Slice into portions and serve immediately while warm and melty for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Choose fresh or properly thawed crawfish tails for optimal flavor and texture.
  • Do not overstuff the bread to prevent sogginess or structural collapse during baking.
  • Use a good quality French loaf to hold the filling well and avoid sogginess.
  • Add Cajun seasoning gradually to control the spice level according to your preference.
  • Keep an eye on the bread while baking to achieve a perfect golden crust without burning.
