Ingredients

Scale

Calzone Dough

  • Store-bought or homemade pizza dough (enough for 4 medium calzones, approx. 1 lb)

Filling

  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups cooked chicken, shredded or diced
  • 1/2 cup Alfredo sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

For Cooking

  • Olive oil, for brushing (about 1-2 tablespoons)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine shredded cooked chicken, Alfredo sauce, mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Stir well to create a thick, flavorful filling that holds its shape inside the dough.
  2. Roll Out the Dough: Lightly flour a clean surface and roll out the pizza dough into medium-sized circles, about 6-7 inches in diameter. Ensure the edges are not too thin to prevent tearing during sealing.
  3. Fill and Seal: Place a generous spoonful of the chicken Alfredo filling on one half of each dough circle. Fold the other half over to cover the filling, forming a half-moon shape. Press the edges firmly to seal and crimp with a fork to prevent filling leakage during cooking.
  4. Brush with Olive Oil: Brush the tops of the calzones lightly with olive oil to promote a golden, crispy crust while air frying.
  5. Air Fry to Perfection: Arrange calzones in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they do not touch. Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Cook in batches if necessary depending on the air fryer size.

Notes

  • Don’t overfill the calzones to avoid bursting during cooking.
  • Use pre-cooked chicken like rotisserie or leftover baked chicken for convenience and flavor.
  • Roll the dough evenly to ensure uniform cooking.
  • Place perforated parchment paper in the air fryer basket to prevent sticking without blocking air circulation.
  • Let calzones rest for a few minutes after cooking to allow cheese to set and avoid burning your mouth.
