Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • Potato gnocchi: 500g (store-bought or homemade)
  • Fresh salmon fillets: 2 fillets (about 300g total)

Sauce Ingredients

  • Heavy cream or crème fraîche: 1 cup (240ml)
  • Garlic: 2 cloves, finely chopped
  • Shallots: 2 small, finely chopped
  • Parmesan cheese: ½ cup, grated
  • Lemon zest: from 1 lemon
  • Lemon juice: 2 tablespoons
  • Fresh herbs (dill or parsley): 2 tablespoons, chopped

Cooking Fats and Seasoning

  • Olive oil: 1 tablespoon
  • Butter: 1 tablespoon
  • Salt: to taste
  • Black pepper: to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the salmon: Season the salmon fillets with salt and pepper. Heat olive oil in a hot pan and sear the salmon skin-side down until the skin is crispy and the flesh is cooked through. Remove from the pan and let cool slightly before flaking into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Cook the gnocchi: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the potato gnocchi and cook until they float to the surface. Use a slotted spoon to gently remove the gnocchi and set aside.
  3. Make the creamy sauce: In the same pan used for searing the salmon, melt butter over medium heat. Sauté finely chopped garlic and shallots until fragrant and translucent. Stir in the heavy cream, grated parmesan, lemon zest, and lemon juice. Allow the sauce to gently thicken, stirring occasionally.
  4. Combine and finish: Add the cooked gnocchi and flaked salmon back into the pan, stirring carefully to coat everything evenly with the creamy sauce. Toss in the fresh herbs and season to taste with salt, pepper, and an extra squeeze of lemon if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use fresh salmon for the best texture and flavor.
  • Remove gnocchi as soon as they float to prevent mushiness.
  • Adding lemon zest just before serving enhances freshness and balances richness.
  • Adjust sauce thickness with a splash of pasta water if needed.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the best texture and flavor.
