Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 4 fresh salmon fillets (skin-on or skinless, about 6 oz each)
  • 3 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce or tamari (for gluten-free)
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds (toasted)
  • 2 cloves garlic, freshly minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or sesame oil
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated (optional)
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a bowl, combine 3 tablespoons maple syrup, 2 tablespoons soy sauce, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Whisk everything together until well blended to create the sweet-savory glaze.
  2. Marinate the Salmon: Place the salmon fillets in a shallow dish or zip-top bag. Pour the marinade over them and let marinate for 15-20 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  3. Toast the Sesame Seeds: While salmon is marinating, gently toast 1 tablespoon sesame seeds in a dry skillet over medium heat until golden and fragrant, about 3 minutes. Set aside for garnish.
  4. Cook the Salmon: Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil or sesame oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Remove salmon from marinade, reserving excess liquid. Sear salmon skin-side down for 4-5 minutes until crispy. Flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes while basting with reserved marinade to create a sticky glaze.
  5. Finish and Garnish: Transfer salmon to plates. Sprinkle generously with toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions. Serve immediately for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Freshness is Key: Use the freshest salmon for optimal flavor and texture.
  • Don’t Skip Marinating: Even a short 15-minute marinade significantly enhances the taste.
  • Control the Heat: Cook over medium to medium-high heat to prevent burning the maple syrup sugars.
  • Skin-on for Crispiness: Leaving the skin on results in a crispy exterior and tender interior.
  • Use a Non-stick Skillet: Helps prevent sticking and keeps salmon presentation intact.
