Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (85% lean)
  • 1 lb Brussels sprouts, fresh or frozen
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Optional Ingredients

  • 12 tbsp soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce
  • Crushed red pepper or cayenne (for heat, optional)
  • Toasted pecans or walnuts (for garnish, optional)
  • Curry powder or smoked paprika (for spice variation, optional)
  • Tomato paste or balsamic vinegar (to make it saucy, optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep Your Ingredients: Wash the Brussels sprouts thoroughly, trim the ends, and slice them in half for even cooking. Dice the onion and mince the garlic so everything is ready to go once the pan heats up.
  2. Brown the Ground Beef: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until it’s nicely browned and no longer pink, about 6-8 minutes. Season with salt and pepper while cooking.
  3. Sauté Onions, Garlic, and Brussels Sprouts: Push the beef to one side of the pan and add the diced onions and minced garlic, cooking until fragrant and translucent. Then stir in the Brussels sprouts, stirring frequently until they’re tender and slightly caramelized, about 8-10 minutes.
  4. Season and Finish: Add optional soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce now if using, stirring everything together to combine the flavors. Taste and adjust seasoning with extra salt or pepper if needed. Cook another 2 minutes to let all the deliciousness meld perfectly.

Notes

  • Choose fresh Brussels sprouts that are bright green and compact for best texture and flavor.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan to allow ingredients to brown instead of steam, enhancing flavor.
  • Use medium-high heat to caramelize the sprouts and beef for deeper flavor development.
  • Add salt gradually in stages to avoid over-salting and enhance natural taste.
  • Let the dish rest for a couple of minutes before serving to let flavors blend beautifully.
