Impossible Cheeseburger Pie

The Impossible Cheeseburger Pie is a comforting and cheesy dish that combines the classic flavors of a cheeseburger in a warm, flaky pie. Ingredients

Scale

Filling Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1/4 cup chopped pickles

Binding Ingredients

  • 3 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup milk or cream

Cheese and Crust

  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 store-bought or homemade pie crust (9-inch)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain any excess fat, then add the finely chopped onions and minced garlic. Cook until the onions are soft and fragrant. Stir in the ketchup, mustard, and chopped pickles to replicate the classic cheeseburger flavor.
  2. Mix the Binding Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk or cream until smooth to create a creamy mixture that will bind with the beef and cheese for a sliceable texture.
  3. Assemble the Pie: Place the pie crust into a 9-inch baking dish, pressing it firmly against the sides. Spread half of the shredded cheddar cheese evenly on the bottom crust. Pour in the beef filling mixture, then sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese evenly on top. Finally, pour the egg and milk mixture evenly over the filling and cheese layers.
  4. Bake to Perfection: Bake the assembled pie in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 35 to 40 minutes until the cheese on top is bubbly and golden brown and the filling is set. Let the pie rest for 10 minutes before slicing to allow the flavors to meld and the filling to firm up for cleaner cuts.

Notes

  • Use room temperature eggs for a smoother mixture and better texture.
  • Don’t overfill the pie crust to avoid overflow while baking.
  • Drain the cooked beef well to prevent a soggy crust.
  • Let the pie rest after baking to help the filling set.
  • Choose sharp cheddar cheese for a bold and delicious flavor contrast.
