Million Dollar Ravioli Casserole

Million Dollar Ravioli Casserole is a rich, creamy, and comforting baked dish featuring tender cheese-filled ravioli layered with savory Italian sausage or ground beef, and enveloped in a luscious blend of cream cheese, sour cream, and marinara sauce. Topped with melted mozzarella and Parmesan, it’s perfect for family dinners or entertaining guests, combining ease of preparation with elegant flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

Ravioli

  • Cheese-filled ravioli (fresh or frozen), about 1 pound

Sauce and Dairy

  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Meat and Seasoning

  • 1/2 pound Italian sausage or ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, diced

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meat and Aromatics: Brown the Italian sausage or ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and diced onion, cooking until fragrant and tender. Drain any excess fat to prevent greasiness in the casserole.
  2. Cook the Ravioli: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the ravioli just until al dente according to package instructions. Drain and set aside while preparing the sauce.
  3. Make the Creamy Sauce: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, and marinara sauce until smooth and well blended. Stir in Italian seasoning to infuse the sauce with herb flavors.
  4. Layer the Casserole: Grease a baking dish. Spread half of the cooked ravioli evenly on the bottom. Top with half of the cooked meat mixture, then spread half of the creamy sauce over it. Repeat the layers and finish by sprinkling shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheese evenly over the top.
  5. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the casserole for 25-30 minutes, until the cheese on top is melted, bubbly, and golden brown.

Notes

  • Use fresh ravioli when possible for the best texture.
  • Do not overcook ravioli; al dente prevents mushiness after baking.
  • Drain meat fat thoroughly to keep the casserole from being greasy.
  • Allow casserole to rest 5-10 minutes after baking for easier slicing.
  • Customize cheese blends by mixing mozzarella with provolone or gouda for extra flavor depth.
