Southern Strawberry Sweet Iced Tea

Southern Strawberry Sweet Iced Tea is a refreshing and sweet beverage that blends the natural sweetness of fresh strawberries with bold Southern-style black tea. Perfect for warm days, this easy-to-make drink combines brewed tea, homemade strawberry syrup, and a splash of lemon juice for a bright, fruity twist on a classic iced tea. Enjoy it chilled with ice, garnished with fresh fruit, and serve it at gatherings or as a revitalizing everyday treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Tea Base

  • 46 black tea bags
  • 4 cups water (for brewing tea)

Strawberry Syrup

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped
  • 1 cup water
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar

Additional Ingredients

  • 12 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • Ice cubes, as needed

Instructions

  1. Brew the Tea: Start by boiling about 4 cups of water, then steep 4-6 black tea bags for 5 to 7 minutes to create a strong, flavorful base. Remove the tea bags and allow the tea to cool completely at room temperature.
  2. Prepare the Strawberry Syrup: While the tea is cooling, hull and chop about 1 cup of fresh strawberries. In a small saucepan, combine the strawberries with 1 cup of water and 3/4 cup sugar, then simmer on medium-low heat until the sugar dissolves and the strawberries become very soft, about 10 minutes. Strain the syrup to remove solids for a smooth liquid, or leave bits in if you prefer texture.
  3. Combine Tea and Syrup: Mix the cooled tea and strawberry syrup together in a large pitcher. Add 1–2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice for brightness, adjust sweetness by adding more syrup if desired, then stir well.
  4. Chill and Serve: Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the Southern Strawberry Sweet Iced Tea over the ice. Garnish with sliced strawberries or lemon wedges if desired to impress your guests.

Notes

  • Use fresh strawberries for the best flavor and vibrant color.
  • Brew the tea stronger than usual to balance the sweetness of the syrup.
  • Adjust sweetness gradually and taste as you go to avoid overpowering the tea.
  • Allow tea to cool to room temperature before mixing with syrup to preserve flavor and clarity.
  • Serve the iced tea fresh the day it’s made for optimal flavor and freshness.
