Ingredients

Scale

Meat & Cheese

  • 1 lb Ground Beef (80/20 recommended)
  • 4 slices Sharp Cheddar Cheese
  • 4 Burger Buns, soft and sturdy

Vegetables & Seasonings

  • 1 Red Bell Pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 Green Bell Pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium Onion, thinly sliced
  • 12 Jalapeños, thinly sliced (optional)
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 tbsp Lime Juice (optional)
  • 1 tbsp Fajita Seasoning (blend of chili powder, cumin, garlic, smoked paprika)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black Pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Vegetables: Slice the red and green bell peppers and onion into thin strips. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté the peppers, onions, and jalapeños (if using) until softened and starting to caramelize, about 7-10 minutes. Season with a pinch of salt and optionally splash with lime juice for extra zest. Remove from heat and set aside for topping.
  2. Mix the Burger Patties: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef with fajita seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Gently mix just until ingredients are evenly distributed to keep the patties tender. Divide the meat into four equal portions and form each into a round, slightly flattened patty, making a small indentation in the center to prevent puffing during cooking.
  3. Cook the Burgers: Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes per side or until cooked to your preferred doneness. In the final minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and allow it to melt thoroughly.
  4. Assemble the Burgers: Lightly toast the burger buns to add crunch and warmth. Place the cheddar-topped patties on the bottom halves of the buns. Top each with a generous portion of the sautéed peppers and onions. Add any additional toppings you prefer, then crown with the top buns. Serve immediately for the best flavor and juiciness.

Notes

  • Don’t Over-Mix: Handle the meat gently to prevent tough, dry burgers and preserve juiciness.
  • Use Fresh Spices: Utilizing fresh or freshly ground fajita seasoning enhances the vibrant flavor profile.
  • Choose Quality Cheese: Sharp cheddar melts better and provides a bold taste.
  • Heat Management: Adjust spice levels by controlling the quantity of jalapeños and chili powder used.
  • Rest Your Patties: Let cooked burgers rest a few minutes before serving to retain juices.
