Ingredients

Scale

For the Filling

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning (or about 2 tbsp homemade blend)
  • 23 tbsp water
  • 1 to 1 ½ cups shredded cheese (cheddar or Mexican blend)

For the Wrap

  • 6 large flour tortillas
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Cook the ground beef: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Brown the ground beef thoroughly, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain any excess fat. Stir in the taco seasoning and a splash of water, then simmer until the mixture thickens and becomes flavorful.
  2. Prepare the tortillas: Lay out the flour tortillas on a clean surface. Lightly brush each tortilla with olive oil or melted butter to help achieve a crispy texture when baked.
  3. Assemble the taco sticks: Evenly spread a layer of the seasoned ground beef on each tortilla. Sprinkle a generous handful of shredded cheese over the beef. Roll each tortilla tightly into a stick shape. Use toothpicks if needed to secure them.
  4. Bake until golden: Place the rolled taco sticks on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 12 to 15 minutes or until the tortillas turn crispy and the cheese melts beautifully.
  5. Serve warm: Remove the toothpicks carefully. Let the taco sticks cool slightly before serving to avoid the melted cheese spilling out. Enjoy while warm for the best savory and cheesy bite.

Notes

  • Use freshly shredded cheese for improved meltiness and no anti-caking agents.
  • Keep the filling layers thin to make rolling easier and baking more even.
  • Secure the rolled sticks with toothpicks to keep them intact during baking and serving.
  • Brush tortillas lightly with oil or butter to achieve a perfectly crisp and golden crust without greasiness.
  • Allow cooked taco sticks to rest briefly before serving to let the cheese set and prevent spilling.
