Ingredients

Scale

Spaghetti and Pasta

  • 8 ounces spaghetti noodles (regular or whole wheat, broken in half)

Meat and Protein

  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey

Vegetables and Aromatics

  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

Liquids and Sauces

  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cups beef or chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Seasonings

  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning blend (oregano, basil, thyme)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Optional Garnishes

  • Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Sauté the aromatics and meat – Set your Instant Pot to sauté mode and heat the olive oil. Add chopped onions and garlic, cooking until translucent and fragrant. Then add ground beef or turkey, breaking it apart with a spoon as it browns evenly.
  2. Step 2: Add liquids and seasoning – Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes and broth. Sprinkle in Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine and deglaze the bottom of the pot, scraping up any browned bits to prevent burning during pressure cooking.
  3. Step 3: Layer the pasta – Break spaghetti noodles in half and spread them evenly over the sauce mixture without stirring. Press down gently to submerge the noodles as much as possible to avoid sticking and ensure even cooking.
  4. Step 4: Pressure cook – Seal the Instant Pot lid and set it to manual high pressure for 8 minutes. Once the cooking time ends, perform a quick release of the pressure carefully to prevent overcooking the pasta.
  5. Step 5: Stir and serve – Open the lid and stir the spaghetti thoroughly to combine noodles and sauce evenly. If the sauce is too thin, set the pot back to sauté mode for a few minutes to thicken. Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese if desired and enjoy.

Notes

  • Do not stir pasta before cooking to prevent clumping and sticking.
  • Use broth instead of water for richer flavor.
  • Perform a quick pressure release to keep pasta al dente.
  • Choose lean ground meats to avoid excess grease.
  • Add fresh herbs like basil or parsley after cooking to preserve their brightness.
